Mariental police officer denied bail for assault

REHOBOTH, 30 JUL (NAMPA) – The police officer arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at the Mariental State Hospital nurses’ home, was denied bail during his first appearance in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He appeared before Magistrate Verinao Kamahene on a charge of assault to do grievous bodily harm, read with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act and was denied bail because police investigations are at an early stage.
It is alleged that Samuel Jantze, a constable at the Mariental Police Station, assaulted Eva Kisting who is eight months pregnant around 20h00 at the nurses’ home.
Jantze allegedly assaulted Kisting using his fists and belt and damaged property near her room.
He was remanded in custody and is being held at the Mariental police holding cells.
The accused is set to appear in court again on Tuesday to apply for bail.
Public Prosecutor Loide Nghixulifwa represented the State.
