Two teenagers die in motor vehicle accident at Maltahöhe

REHOBOTH, 24 JUL (NAMPA) – Two boys aged 14 and 18 died instantly in a motor vehicle accident at Maltahöhe on Tuesday.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa the accident occurred around 07h10 on the bridge just outside Maltahöhe.
An unlicensed driver allegedly lost control of the Toyota Corolla and all five occupants were thrown out of the vehicle.
“They were driving towards the town when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It smashed into the rails of the bridge and threw out all occupants, killing two on the scene and seriously injuring the remaining three, including the driver,” Clay said.
He said four of the occupants were learners at Daweb Secondary School.
The injured three were rushed to the Mariental State Hospital.
The names of the deceased are known, but cannot be revealed as their next of kin had not yet been informed.
A case of culpable homicide and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence has been opened and investigations are underway.
