Three die in accident between Kalkrand and Mariental

REHOBOTH, 21 JUL (NAMPA) – Three people died on the B1 Road between Kalkrand and Mariental on Friday after a head-on-collision between a mini bus and a sedan.
Upon enquiry on Saturday, Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay, told Nampa that the accident was reported at around 20h48 and happened approximately 25 kilomtres south of Kalkrand.
“According to the information [at hand] a Toyota Quantum minibus with a trailer, traveling southwards, collided head on with an Audi motor vehicle, whereby the Quantum left the road and overturned, killing one male passenger and injuring eleven others,” Clay noted.
Clay said the 52-year-old driver and 36-year-old passenger of the sedan were also killed on impact and their bodies could only be removed with the use of 'Jaws of life'.
The next of kin of deceased have not yet been informed.
Full details of of accident are still unknown and police investigations continue.
All Injured passengers were transported to Mariental State Hospital.
A number of fatal car crashes were recorded on the Windhoek – Rehoboth road and Gibeon-Asab roads this year, including the collision between a bus and pickup that claimed the lives of four people last month.
