Emotional eulogy evokes mourners’ emotions

USAKOS, 18 JUL (NAMPA) – The Jubilate Parish Congregation broke into tears while family member Tido !Gontes delivered a moving eulogy of the late political stalwart, Theo-Ben Gurirab at Usakos on Wednesday.
The former Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament died in Windhoek on Saturday at
the age of 80.
In the eulogy, an emotional !Gontes reminisced on the memories with his late uncle, whom he said taught him a number of life lessons.
“I remember when my uncle bought me my first suit while I was still a student at one of the universities in the United Kingdom, he taught me how important it was to always look presentable,” !Gonteb recalled.
He went on to describe the late Gurirab as a father figure who always put his family first.
Church elder, Immanuel /Ochurub, in his message on behalf of the church, emphasised how greatly the Gurirab family contributed to the Usakos community and thanked Gurirab’s wife, Joan Guriras for always being by her husband’s side until his last breath.
The late politician’s cousin, Simson Tjongarero alluded to the dream Gurirab had for his town, Usakos, which always brought him back home to plough back.
Tjongarero also called on the Namibian Government to assist in erecting a monument at /Uikrens, where the late Gurirab spent most of his youth, in his honour.
The late Gurirab will be laid to rest on Saturday at Heroes’ Acre, where other freedom fighters such as Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo and Hidipo Hamutenya are also buried.
