ONGWEDIVA, 18 JUL (NAMPA) – A 45-year-old taxi driver died at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital after being involved in an accident on Tuesday.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region, Inspector Petrus Iimbili told Nampa the deceased was identified as Siegfried Nanyanga Panduleni, a resident of Okatha-Kiingondjo village in northern Namibia.
Panduleni sustained severe injuries in the accident between his taxi and a Daihatsu truck at Ongwediva.
The Oshana police’s daily crime report said both drivers were heading in the same direction. The taxi driver, allegedly without checking for oncoming traffic, stopped and made a sudden U-turn to the right for a customer standing on the other side of the road.
“The oncoming truck hit the taxi on the right side,” Iimbili said, adding that the truck driver escaped without injuries. Both drivers were travelling alone when the accident occurred.
Ongwediva NamPol registered a culpable homicide case docket in connection with the accident.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
