Three day mourning period for Gurirab

WINDHOEK, 17 JUL (NAMPA) – Namibia will observe a period of mourning between Wednesday and Friday in honour of late Theo-Ben Gurirab who served as Namibia’s first Foreign Affairs Minister, Prime Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly.
President Hage Geingob declared the national mourning period on Tuesday in terms of Sub-article (8) of Article 32 of the Namibian Constitution.
In line with the declaration of the national mourning period, all National Flags will fly at half-mast during the period of mourning.
On Monday, the Office of the President announced that Geingob has conferred hero status on Gurirab and that he will be buried at the Heroes’ Acre on Saturday, 21 July 2018.
Gurirab died in a Windhoek hospital on Saturday after a short illness.
