Imcor Chiefs win Baraks Five Cup

REHOBOTH, 02 JUL (NAMPA) – Imcor Chiefs from Uis successfully defended the annual Baraks Five Cup played in Kamanjab over the weekend.
They defeated Kaizer Chiefs from Arandis 2-1 in the final of the tournament named after the late former principal of Kamanjab Combined School, Abraham ‘Baraks’ Mbarandonga.
The match played on Sunday at the Kamanjab Combined School stadium saw the teams locked one-all at half-time, with Imcor Chiefs scoring midway through the second half to clinch the title for the second year running.
Organiser of the tournament, Ama Getze Thourob told Nampa on Monday altogether 17 teams participated.
“The tournament was a success although we would have liked more teams from the Kunene Region to participate. We really appreciate the turn-out of the teams from as far as Arandis,” Thourob said.
He said the tournament will be bigger and better next year.
“We expect more teams to participate in the tournament,” he said.
Imcor Chiefs defeated AC Milan 1-0 in the semi-final, while Kaizer Chiefs defeated Kamanjab Namibian Police 5-3 in the other semi-final.
Imcor Chiefs as winners received N.dollars 15 000, with the runner-up, Kaizer Chiefs getting N.dollars 9 000.
The semi-final losers, AC Milan and Kamanjab NamPol each received N.dollars 3 000.
The tournament was started in 2016 and sees teams from surrounding areas compete in football.
