WINDHOEK, 02 JUL (NAMPA) The fashion industry has a key role to play to help women move up the value chain and to fuel inclusive and sustainable business, economies and societies.
These were the remarks of former First Lady, Penehupifo Pohamba when she officiated at the Tai Exclusive Fashion Show, hosted by fashion designer, Taimi Sakeus under the theme Own Your Crown here Saturday.
Pohamba explained that fashion design is a very dynamic industry which creates many job opportunities for both designers and clothing boutiques that specialise in different brands.
She said the industry provides long-term careers for people who have a passion for fashion and study to understand the different appetites for what makes them stand out in society.
Fashion shows are very important all over the world because through fashion, people from all walks of life interact with the garment industry, wholesalers and retailers to meet their clothing needs, stressed Pohamba.
She pointed out that when international tourists visit a particular country, they usually are interested to see what that particular country can offer, and thus called on the designers to also specialise in designing local traditional attires with an international flavour.
On her part, Sakeus said the fashion show is an opportunity to build on the skills and knowledge in order to understand the industry, influence opportunities, expand customer base, and through success, generate more jobs and revenue in the country.
The theme of the show, she continued, alludes to women who have risen to greatness and power by utilising available resources and increasing their influence in the decision-making process.
Showcasing winter, corporate, evening and vintage wear including jewellery alongside Sakeus, were designers Jennifer Uises of Madawa Fashions and Tazenda Akirina Malinga of Elements by Akirina.
