WINDHOEK, 29 JUN (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has cautioned all motorists to be vigilant when driving on the Western Bypass or under any overpass.
This warning comes after a young woman sustained injuries from the rocks which were thrown at her car while driving on the Western Bypass on Thursday evening.
According to a media statement issued on Friday, the woman was traveling on the highway when rocks emerged from nowhere, hitting her car and shattering her vehicle’s windows.
The young woman stopped her vehicle in order to inspect but was attacked by three men intending to rob her but fled the scene immediately after a passer-by, who is a member of the neighbourhood watch, managed to intervene by firing warning shots.
“These types of incidents are deliberate actions targeting motorists because as soon as you stop to see what happened, the criminals use the opportunity to rob you.”
For safety reasons, NamPol advised motorists to change lanes just before driving under bridges or any overpass.
The statement also urged motorists not to stop in any case, should they fall victim of such an incident and rather drive to the nearest police station.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The suspects are still at large and police investigations continue.
