WINDHOEK, 27 JUN (NAMPA) - The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology will stage the fifth National ICT Summit from 15 to 17 October this year.
The summit will take place in Windhoek under the theme ‘Digital Transformation for an ICT Smart Nation’.
Speaking here on Wednesday, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Stanley Simataa said Namibia has developed a set of strategies and plans to transform it into a digitised country that uses, promotes, innovates and benefits from the numerous contributions the information and communication technology industry has to offer.
“Anchoring this transformation will require new efforts to develop the plethora of public service’s technical skills and capabilities and to re-think the way digital infrastructure is designed,” he said.
Simataa further said ICT can help to “extract the hidden entrepreneurial potential of our citizens, especially the youth, hence the sector must rise to their expectations.”
He further said Namibia should position ICT as a vital component to achieve greater efficiency and success for service delivery and to gain sustainable developments goals.
“Given the limited resources at our disposal, strategic partnerships with the ICT industry are and will continue to be absolute necessities for the successful hosting of the summit, therefore I call upon potential sponsors to come on board to ensure that we digitalise Namibia”.
The summit aims to bring together all industry stakeholders and provide a platform to reflect on ICT trends as well as challenges facing the industry globally and in Namibia in particular.
