WINDHOEK, 21 JUN (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Central Logistics Warehouse was officially inaugurated here on Thursday.
The facility will be used to store materials and equipment and for distributing goods procured for the use of the members of the force.
It was constructed at a cost of over N.dollars 46 million.
Inaugurating the warehouse, Windhoek Mayor, Muesee Kazapua explained that the facility will not only release Nampol from the burden of leasing fees, but also add value to the infrastructural development of the city.
He said the force has been paying N.dollars 125 000 per month for a private warehouse that was used for the storage of material and equipment.
Previously, NamPol rented various buildings in the Southern and Northern industrial areas, due to a lack of own office space.
This situation, according to Kazapua, forced the government to avail funds for the construction of the new warehouse.
He commended NamPol for its continuous efforts in ensuring that Government projects are implemented as set out in the national development plans and Vision 2030.
The mayor could, however, not hide his dissatisfaction in the lack of accommodation for police officers in Namibia, saying this contributes to the poor service delivery by some officers.
He thus appealed to local authorities in the country to avail land for NamPol and other law enforcement agencies for the construction of staff houses.
On his part, NamPol Inspector General, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga acknowledged that office space for police officers was a great concern.
“These facilities will, therefore, assist us in storing and distributing goods procured for the use of the members of the force,” he said.
The warehouse, which is situated in the Northern Industrial Area, consists of five store areas, six offices, a conference room, a storage room and a power distribution room.
It also has a kitchenette, freezer loading area, freezer storage, cold storage, weapon storage, ablution facilities and additional upper floor storage.
