OMAKANGE, 21 JUN (NAMPA) – Business personalities, led by Junias Andjamba, are financially and materially supporting the congregation of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) in the remote areas of Omakange in the Omusati Region.
The Omakange congregation falls under the Opuwo RCC Parish located in the area dominated by the previously marginalised section of the Ovahimba people.
Its Priest Venasius Kavaku on Wednesday explained that the congregation is gaining momentum in terms of membership growth with over 500 members as per its baptism record, thus far.
“It is a small congregation, but growing fast,” he said, adding that at its inception the church experienced a turnout of less than 50 members for its Sunday services.
The congregation is therefore in dire need of toilet facilities for both male and female and an accommodation establishment for the catechists.
He indicated that the congregation’s long-term project is to build a community hall and a kindergarten if sufficient funds are acquired.
Andjamba and some of his fellow business people on Sunday raised more than N.dollars 7 000 and pledged the donation of materials for the construction of a fence around the church premises.
He stated that he lobbied his business friends earlier this year to render their support in the provision and erection of a structure where the church’s bell is now hanged up, after it had been on the ground for the past five years.
“I have the community of Omakange at heart and as part of the Omakange community sometimes also, I will do everything in my power to solicit resources for further development of their congregation.”
The Omakange RCC congregation came into being in 2003.
