WINDHOEK, 12 JUN (NAMPA) - The faction of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) under the leadership of self-proclaimed president, Utjiua Muinjangue on Wednesday handed over a petition to tWindhoek Mayor Muesee Kazapua.
The petition, according to Steve Zakaapi who read it on behalf of Nudo, is aimed at informing Kazapua that the letter written to him by Nudos Secretary-General, Meundju Jahanika to recall municipal councillor, Joseph Kauandenge has no meaning and must therefore be ignored.
Kauandenge, Councillor Uahimisa Kaapehi from the Swakopmund Town Council and Munjasa Karuhumba from the Okakarara Town Council were recalled by Nudo president Asser Mbai after the partys third elective congress, which had to be called off after tensions arose between the partys two factions.
Kazapua, after receiving the petition, promised the petitioners that he would give it to the relevant authorities within the City of Windhoek.
According to Zakaapi, similar petitions were handed over to the Swakopmund and Okakarara town councils to notify the leadership that the recalled councillors are going nowhere as the authority that recalled them is not legitimate.
Kauandenge told Nampa they have also written to the Speaker of the National Assembly to give notice that there is a change in the leadership of the party, but were referred to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), where they were told by Director of Elections, Dr Paul Isaak that the ECN will have a meeting next Thursday during which they will discuss the matter.
Contacted for comment, Nudos deputy SG, Vetaruhe Kandorozu, told this agency that as the leadership of the party they have not received anything in this regard and they will therefore remain observers of the situation.
The party had its third elective congress at the end of May, which ended in chaos.
The partys highest decision-making organ failed to take off, and was cancelled when party president Mbai declared the outcome of the proceedings null and void because of the tension, confusion, disagreements and unresolved issues between members of the two factions.
The one faction was Team Nudo and the other was Team VK100%.
Muinjangue and her other 'Team Nudo' members, however went ahead and conducted an election for the party leadership, while other delegates supporting Kandorozu were outside the congress hall.
After the uncontested election, Muinjangue declared herself the new party president.
