KEETMANSHOOP, 12 JUN (NAMPA) – The 36-year-old woman accused of setting the Seeheim Hotel near Keetmanshoop on fire on Sunday, did not appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday as she was in hospital.
The woman allegedly set the 18-room hotel on fire, causing damage of at least N.dollars 10 million, and stabbed hotel owner Zirk Kloppers in the arm.
She was arrested Sunday night and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but did not as she was in hospital where she was receiving treatment for injuries sustained during an attack, allegedly by Kloppers.
The Namibian Police Force’s //Kharas Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa the woman was admitted to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital on Monday.
“The woman claims she was assaulted by the owner of the hotel. She is under the care of the police,” Mubebo said.
He added that she will appear in court once she is released from the hospital.
This news agency understands the woman is a former employee of Seeheim Hotel who Kloppers earlier this year allegedly laid a charge of fraud against after he discovered that she was defrauding the hotel and its clients of money by manipulating credit card transactions.
Mubebo would only say that there were labour issues between the two and that police investigations are ongoing.
