WINDHOEK, 11 JUN (NAMPA) – Zimbabwe’s senior national netball team captain, Perpetua Siyachitema said the level of netball in the region is improving due to competitions like the Debmarine Namibia Pent Series.
She expressed this view on Sunday after Zimbabwe defeated Namibia 51-52 in the host team’s second match of the Debmarine Namibia Pent Series currently underway in the
capital.
Siyachitema said teams in the region are playing their hearts out and competitions like the Pent Series are needed to help boost every team’s level of competitiveness.
“We are currently busy preparing for the World Cup qualifiers that will be hosted in Zambia later this year and competing at this competition will help us to see where to improve ahead of that championship,” she said.
The Netball Association of Zambia will host this year’s African Women Netball championship qualifiers’ tournament, which is also the World Cup qualifier, from 14 to 19 August 2018.
The Zimbabwean netball team captain added that despite strong competition at this year’s Pent Series championships, she is confident they will retain the trophy they won a year ago.
“Zambia are our next opponents at the championships and we know they are a strong squad, but we have prepared well for them. We are not going to undermine them as we did Namibia,” she said.
The five-day competition, involving Namibia, Botswana, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, started Saturday.
