MALTAHÖHE, 08 JUN(NAMPA) – The Hardap Regional Council (HRC) Directorate of Planning on Thursday handed over gym equipment worth about N.dollars 40 000 to the Daweb Constituency AIDS Coordinating Committee (CACOC).
The Daweb CACOC identified buying the fitness equipment as one of the priority needs in order to be able to come up with a Fitness Club Project.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, HRC Acting Planning Director, Theresia Basson said the initiative is aimed at improving the fitness and wellbeing of the Daweb community members as well as the general public.
“The income generated will be used in improving livelihood for people infected and affected by the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), orphans and vulnerable children and the elderly people in the community among others. The main aim of the initiative is to mitigate the impact of HIV in the community,” Basson remarked.
Basson said the gesture is part of the National Strategic Framework for HIV and AIDS response in Namibia under the Impact Mitigation Component Strategy, which is specifically designed to reduce the social impact of HIV/AIDS.
“It is to facilitate the development of multisector strategies to address the effect of HIV/AIDS at individual, family, sector and at national levels. Therefore the communities need to develop and implement local responses to HIV and AIDS,” Basson noted.
She urged the CACOC members to take good care of the equipment so that the project will benefit the next generation and for self-sustainability.
