REHOBOTH, 07 JUN (NAMPA) – The four victims killed in a horrific head-on collision between a bus and a double cab pick-up on Wednesday on the Mariental-Keetmanshoop B1 national road have been identified.
Namibian Police Force Crime Investigations Coordinator for Hardap, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay on Thursday told Nampa the victims were identified as Asor Takataeo Baisako, 38, Regina Katzao, 59, Helena Naambo Shihwandu, 30, and Kassian Mwaafa Nambondi, 32.
The accident happened three kilometres north of Asab between 15h30 and 15h45 on Wednesday.
It is alleged that the driver of the Marcopolo bus, which had about 35 contract workers of a Rosh Pinah mine on board, lost control after the right front tyre burst. The bus went over to the other lane colliding head-on with the Nissan Hardbody Double Cab the four victims were travelling in.
According to police reports the impact was so severe that the pickup was cut in two pieces and the bodies of the deceased badly damaged. The bus left the road after the impact and landed on its side.
Some passengers of the bus were rushed to the Mariental State Hospital with injuries and some were treated on the scene for shock.
