RUNDU, 07 JUNE (NAMPA) – The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) is happy with the progress made in the construction of 123 houses at Kaisosi in Rundu in the Kavango East Region.
NHE’s Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager, Eric Libongani, during an inspection visit here on Thursday said they were excited by the advancement on the Rundu project and others inspected. These include the housing developments at Okahao in Oshikoto, Oshakati in Oshana and Omuthiya in the Omusati Region.
“Rundu in particular is progressing well. We are very happy with what we are seeing here. The project duration is 12 months, but you can see that there are a lot of houses already at roof level,” Libongani pointed out.
He said 26 houses are at roof level, 10 at window level, 67 at floor level while 20 plots are already excavated.
An overall total of 423 plots are turned into accommodation as a pilot for the project.
Libongani said the projects are a unique initiative taken by the NHE, where they have partnered with the private sector through a Request for Proposal (RFP). This means going into the market to partner with individuals and companies that have funds, the skills and technical capacity to build houses.
“We went into the market and received about 54 bidders willing to partner with NHE to fund our housing project,” explained Libongani, adding that in Oshakati, they are busy with the construction of 200 houses, 50 in Omuthiya, 50 in Okahao and 123 in Rundu.
He was proud to note that this is a project where NHE did not approach Government for money as it used its own funds to do the design, plans and avail the land and the clientele, as well as working out the demand analysis to ensure that the plan and cost of the houses speak to the needy on the waiting-list.
Five bidders were selected from the 54 bidders; Top International, Elite Investment, Atlantis Ports (PTY) Ltd, Pupkewitz & Sons and Darwin Investment Group Namibia in joint venture with Salami Island Investments. The houses in Rundu are built by the latter joint partners.
The houses are in seven different types and range between N.dollars 367 000 and N.dollars 539 000.
