WINDHOEK, 22 NOV (NAMPA) - A 19-year-old woman is fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Katutura State Hospital after her stepfather allegedly shot her in the capital on Thursday evening.
Family members of the victim, who asked not to be named, told Nampa upon enquiry on Friday afternoon that the young woman was allegedly shot through the head, and sustained serious brain damage.
Her 32-year-old stepfather then ended his life by shooting himself with the same pistol.
He died on the spot, according to family members. The deceased's name is being withheld for now.
The alleged shooting incidents took place in the Donkerhoek area in Khomasdal between 19h00 and 20h00 on Thursday.
Namibian Police investigations are now underway to establish the exact circumstances and motives leading to the incidents.
This news agency, however, understands that the young woman’s mother had laid a case of the violation of a protection order against her husband earlier in the day.
One of the family members whom Nampa spoke to was of the opinion that if the police had reacted more swiftly after the case was opened, the shooting incident could have been prevented.
