OSHAKATI, 05 JUN (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region on Sunday registered an inquest case docket after a 37-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
Oshana NamPol spokesperson, Inspector Petrus Iimbili confirmed the incident in a telephonic interview with Nampa on Tuesday, identifying the man as Venantius Kapembe from the Oshoopala informal settlement in Oshakati.
Iimbili said the incident happened at 06h05 on Sunday with the man hanging himself in the isolation room of the hospital’s ward 16, where mentally challenged patients are based, after he was admitted on Saturday.
“He was brought there by his parents after he started disturbing others at home,” Iimbili said.
The deceased allegedly used a hospital bed sheet piece to hang himself on a peephole’s iron.
Police suspect no foul play and his next of kin have been informed.
