Nekundi wins 'Player of the Season' award

WINDHOEK, 02 JUN (NAMPA) – African Stars striker Panduleni Nekundi was on Friday crowned Player of the Season at the prestigious Namibia Premier League (NPL) awards.
The awards for the 2017/18 MTC NPL season honoured Premier League players for their hard work throughout the season.
Nekundi beat Dynamo Fredericks of Black Africa and Marcel Papama of the University of Namibia Football Club for the Player of the Season award.
He was also the automatic winner of the Golden Boot award because of the 15 goals he scored during the season.
Nekundi won N.dollars 45 000 in total - N.dollars 15 000 for the top goal scorer award and N.dollars 30 000 for the Player of the Season award.
Black Africa midfielder Fredericks walked away with the Players’ Player of the Season award which came with a cash prize of N.dollars 20 000. He was voted for by the players and captains of the 16 Premier League teams.
The other nominees in the same category were Papama and Nekundi.
Another award handed out was Coach of the Season, which went to Bobby Samaria of African Stars. He won N.dollars 20 000. Samaria beat Marley Ngarizemo of Young African and Gerhard Hengari (Mighty Gunners).
The Referee of the Season award with a price tag of N.dollars 10 000 was won by Nehemiah Shoovaleka, who shrugged off challenges by Jackson Pavaza and Willem Haitembu.
The Assistant Referee of the Season award went to Sem Singeve, who beat his competitors Mathew Nevonga and Eneas Shikongo for the award which carried a prize of N.dollars 5 000.
As champions of the 2017/18 MTC NPL Season, African Stars received the NPL trophy, a gold medal and N.dollars 1 million, while runners-up Black Africa received N.dollars 600 000 and a silver medal.
Third-placed Mighty Gunners walked away with a bronze medal and N.dollars 300 000, while Young African, who ended fourth, were rewarded with N.dollars 100 000.
The Chairman's Award went to Bethuel 'Five' Hochobeb and Bobby Sissing.
