OTJIWARONGO, 25 MAY (NAMPA) - A member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) at the Otavi Military Base died Friday after being run over by a truck.
The 48-year-old man, whose relatives are yet to be informed, sustained head injuries and both of his legs were broken in the accident that occurred just after 01h00.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa the accident occurred approximately 500 metres north of Otavi on the B1 road.
The police initially opened a case of reckless and/or negligent driving against the 35-year-old driver of the truck.
“But since the victim has died, a charge of culpable homicide will be added to the charges against the truck driver,” Mbeha said.
He had been driving from Ondangwa in the Oshana Region to Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
