Worker hit and killed by road construction vehicle

OTJIWARONGO, 20 MAY (NAMPA) – A 29-year-old road construction worker died Saturday afternoon on site after a company compactor machine vehicle belonging to the company he worked for hit him on the road between Otjiwarongo and Okakarara currently being upgraded.
The deceased has been identified as Bernhard Titus Mandume, who was a general worker on the road construction project.
It is alleged that the driver of the compactor roller machine vehicle was reversing at the time of incident, accidentally driving into Mandume.
Namibian Police Force’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas confirmed the incident to Nampa on Saturday, adding that Mandume died on the spot.
Andreas said the incident happened approximately 12h50, some 19 kilometres west of Okakarara.
“We have opened a culpable homicide docket in the matter,” Andreas said.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
