OMARURU, 18 MAY (NAMPA) – The Omaruru Municipal Council has launched a new five-year strategic plan to enhance excellent service delivery and bring about development to its residents.
The strategic plan titled ‘Co-creating the Future of Our Town Together’ will run from 2018 to 2022.
Launching the plan here on Thursday, Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Peya Mushelenga said the municipality cannot afford to operate and use public funds without having a guiding tool against which it will be judged.
Mushelenga emphasised the plan should drive the municipal to great heights of service delivery and excellence.
“Since taking over as the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, my office has received numerous complaints from Omaruru residents and business community, thus, the plan should map the road to prosperity,” said Mushelenga.
He said as the plan seeks to address challenges hampering the municipal efforts to deliver best effective and qualitative service, continuous evaluation and monitoring should be placed on the fore-front of monthly meetings.
He added that the process can successfully be assisted by balance scorecards with clear performance indicators in order to ensure that development is taking place.
“All stakeholders should commit themselves to implement the ideas contained in the plan as it does not help to craft good ideas and leave them to collect dust on shelves,” he said.
The town has 14 000 inhabitants and spans over 352 square kilometres of land.
