NYG netball reach semis

WINDHOEK, 12 MAY (NAMPA) – Kavango East, the winners of the 2018 maiden edition of The Namibian Newspaper Cup Netball tournament, have once again shown their dominance after reaching the semifinals of the National Youth Games (NYG) underway here.
They will be joined in the semis by Khomas, Erongo and Omaheke.
Kavango East beat Kunene 25-18 in their opening match on Thursday and went on to defeat their neighbours, Zambezi, 36-11 on Friday morning.
Hosts Khomas beat Ohangwena 47-7 on Thursday and on Friday they beat Hardap 45-2 and Omusati 35-16 to secure a semifinal berth at the inaugural NYG.
The coastal region of Erongo reached the next round of the competition after beating //Kharas 40-10; Otjozondjupa 29-35 and Oshikoto 59-3, while Omaheke beat Kavango West 31-20 and Oshana 32-19.
The semifinals will be contested on Saturday from 08h00 at the United Trusco Sports field, with Khomas taking on Erongo and Kavango East against Omaheke.
Over 1 800 athletes are participating in football, athletics, basketball, boxing, judo, netball, swimming, tennis and volleyball at this year’s edition of the NYG.
