NYG U-17 football games reach semis

WINDHOEK, 11 MAY (NAMPA) – Khomas, Omusati, Erongo and Oshikoto reached the semifinals of the under-17 boys football tournament at the first ever National Youth Games underway here.
On Friday, Khomas continued with their impressive performance, beating Kunene and Kavango East with the same 3-0 score line to book a spot in the next round of the competition.
Omusati beat //Kharas 1-0 and collected points against Oshana, who did not have a football team at the competition.
Despite collecting points, Omusati were level on points as well as goals with Kavango West and went for a play-off, which they won to reach the next round.
Erongo, who started the competition with a draw against Omaheke on Thursday, did not set a foot wrong on Friday, hammering Zambezi 8-0 to finish top of their group.
Oshikoto reached the semis after drawing 0-0 with Otjozondjupa, and went on to beat Hardap 1-0 in their last group match.
The semifinals will be played on Saturday morning at the University of Namibia football field, with the first match between Khomas and Omusati set for 08h00 followed by Erongo and Oshikoto.
The final will be played at the Independence Stadium at 15h00 on Saturday.
Athletes are participating in football, athletics, basketball, boxing, judo, netball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
