Annual #Nosob tournament held at Omitara

REHOBOTH, 08 MAY (NAMPA) – The annual Lamprecht #Nosob tournament played over the weekend in Omitara in the Omaheke Region was a huge success according to tournament organiser Absalom Kuti |Hoxobeb.
The tournament was sponsored by Marina Lamprecht, a commercial farmer from the Omitara area to an amount of N.dollars 30 000.
In a statement availed to Nampa on Monday Tournament organiser Absalom Kuti |Hoxobeb said the tournament created an opportunity for village teams to compete on bigger platforms and get chance to play against top players from the Namibia Premier League (NPL).
“The tournament is open for any team and rural players get the chance to prove themselves against players who play in the organised football structures of the country and possibly, get seen by scouts of those teams,” |Hoxobeb said.
In addition |Hoxobeb said people from Omitara and the surrounding areas make use of this opportunity to generate income by, amongst others, selling traditional food.
The tournament was won by Dolam Pirates from Windhoek after they defeated Cattle Country Second Division campaigners Kom Haal Hulle from Leonardville 1-0 in the final.
En route to the final Dolam Pirates defeated Cattle Country Second Division champions and tournament favourites Tura Cosmos from Omitira 4-2on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the first semi-final, while former defending champions Kom Haal Hulle defeated their counterparts Matatha from Gobabis 1-0 in the second semi-final to progress to the final.
Dolam Pirates walked away with N.dollars 17 000 and a floating trophy along with 20 gold medals, while the runners-up received N.dollars 7 000 and 20 silver medals.
The semi-final losers each walked away with N.dollars 3 000.
“As the organisers of the tournament we would like to express our profound gratitude to the sponsors of our tournament and plead with other businesses to be part of the event in order for it to grow,” |Hoxobeb remarked, adding that they have resolved to add a charity drive to the tournament, which will, among other innitiatives, feed the elderly of the community.
