REHOBOTH, 06 MAY (NAMPA) – A woman was killed in a motor vehicle accident in which four others sustained injuries at the Gibeon T-junction on the B1 national road on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Leondre Mwalenga Shipena.
Simon Muhinda, deputy chief inspector of the Hardap Regional Crime Investigations Unit, confirmed the incident to Nampa on Sunday, saying the four sustained moderate to serious injuries and were transported to the Mariental State Hospital.
They are Catholic Fathers David Mugeti from Zimbabwe, Vincent Makwaka from Malawi and two Namibian nuns - Verena Josef and Celestine Shapumbu.
Muhinda said Shipena, a Namibian female, was driving the sedan vehicle, which was travelling from Windhoek to Keetmanshoop, when she lost control of the car after the front left tyre allegedly burst.
“The car left the road and overturned,” Muhinda said.
Her next of kin have been notified of her passing and a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
