Two members of the Namibian Police Force were robbed with a panga while in the Rocky Crest area on Saturday afternoon, The Villager reports.

According to accounts, the two officers were threatened with a panga which led to them giving up their firearms to the robbers who are yet to be apprehended.

The Villager understands that the officers lost three firearms, a R-5 assault rifle, a Makarov hand pistol, however the third firearm has not been identified.

Police inspector-general, Sebastian Ndeitunga confirmed the robbery which he found to have been suspicious.

“I received the report. We are still investigating the circumstances under which they were robbed,” he said to The Villager.

The inspector however questioned why the armed officers did not defend themselves at the hands of the robbers.

“It is unacceptable for police officers to be robbed of firearms instead of trying to defend themselves. How can three firearms be stolen from them? To me there is still a question mark there,” Ndeitunga said.
