WINDHOEK, 29 APR (NAMPA) – African Stars Football Club, Black Africa and University of Namibia (UNAM) on Saturday joined Civics in the semi-finals of the 2018 Debmarine Namibia Cup, following their victories in the quarter-final matches played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
In the first match, Jerome Louis and Wendell Rudath scored two goals apiece in the second half as BA beat Golden Bees. Clement Nangombe scored a consolation goal for the North West First Division side, however, it was not enough as BA emerged 2-1 victors.
The second game saw UNAM beating Blue Waters 2-0 through goals by Deven Somseb in the first half and captain Heinrich Isaacks in the second half.
It was Isaacks’ goal that lit up the evening as UNAM exchanged several passes before the former Brave Warriors midfielder rolled the ball into the net, with Blue Waters defence nowhere to be found.
The final game of the night saw Stars and Arrows missing many goal-scoring chances before settling for the penalty shootout.
Stars players Ambrosius Amseb and Ivan Kamberipa saw their shots hitting the upright on either end of the half-time break, while Panduleni Nekundi also missed two easy chances for Stars as the team tried to kill the match in regulation time.
Sakaria Petrus had a goal disallowed for offside and missed two easy headers as Arrows aimed to punish their wasteful opponents.
In the penalty shoot-out, Tjiuana Tja Tjinotjiua and Kamberipa scored for Stars, while Elvis Tjivasera, Amseb and Godwin Jena missed in the mandatory five of the kicks.
Jürgen Naobeb and Simon Nekongo scored for Arrows, while penalty kicks from Valton van Staden, Salomon Omseb and Pinehas Willem were saved by Ratanda Mbazuvara to see the two clubs tied at 2-2.
Neville Tjiueza and Denis Tjetjinda scored for Stars while Immanuel Angolo and Luciano Fischer scored to make it four each before Ronald Ketjijere coolly slotted the winning spot kick after Arrows’ Paulus Shanyenga missed his penalty kick.
Meanwhile, the draw for the semi-finals of the cup competition was conducted during the half time break of the Stars and Arrows game and it pitted Civics against Stars while UNAM will face BA in the penultimate round of the competition.
