RUNDU, 28 APR (NAMPA) – The University of Namibia (UNAM) Rundu Campus recorded its first graduate from doctoral studies on Thursday after Dr Phillimon Mungongi was accorded his qualification in Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) here.
UNAM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lazarus Hangula, announced this during the 2018 Rundu Graduation ceremony held at the Rundu Trade Fair Centre.
According to Hangula, students graduated in the fields ranging from education to commerce through distance studies, where only one graduated with a Ph.D.
Mungongi graduated through the institution’s UNAM Staff Development Program as he is currently the Head of Department in the Faculty of Languages, Humanities, and Commerce at the campus.
“Dear graduates, every journey has a destiny and for you today is your destiny. Remember your humble beginnings and the sacrifices of your parents who made a difference in your lives,” Hangula told the graduates.
The government of the Namibia, he added, has made significant investments in UNAM’s modern learning infrastructure to enable the institution to provide equitable and quality high education to its many students.
An excited Mungongi said he was happy about his achievement, stating that it was a lifetime personal achievement which he will forever cherish.
“Leave behind all these other socially evil vices and concentrate on your education. Have some sort of commitment. When you do, everything will fall into place,” he said, urging students to read a lot.
On his part, UNAM Chancellor, Nangolo Mbumba, also congratulated the graduate, stating that a graduation ceremony can be themed as a crowning moment for a student’s academic aptitude, which is mostly attained through strength to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
“All of you who are graduating today have proven that you have as individuals the intellectual and emotional capacity to address any given problem and overcome them,” he said to the nearly 500 students who graduated.
