OVTC students commissioned for school hall renovation

OKAKARARA, 26 APR (NAMPA) The Otjozondjupa Regional Council has sought the services of third-year brick-making and plastering students from the Okakarara Vocational Training Centre (OVTC) for the renovation of the Okakarara Senior Secondary School hall.
This, according to Regional Governor, Otto Ipinge, came after three local contractors presented exorbitant quotations to the council for the renovation.
The idea to renovate the hall came after a familiarisation tour to the school taken by Ipinge in 2016. He found the hall in a bad state following a mysterious fire in 1988, then called for a fundraising gala dinner at the school towards the renovation of the hall, classrooms and fences. This event generated more than N.dollars 900 000 in cash and pledges.
On Tuesday, the school held a meeting to announce the commencement of the refurbishment of the hall where Grade 10 and 12 learners are expected to sit for their final examinations later this year.
At the meeting, Ipinge said his office and that of the school principal, Eliah Nguarambuka, were shocked to see the figures provided to them by local construction companies for the hall renovation. This is what prompted them to award the project to the OVTC students.
The school, which opened its doors in 1973, accommodates around 600 learners.
