RUNDU, 21 APR (NAMPA) – Kavango East Governor, Samuel Mbambo has called on the business community to support athletes from the region who will take part in the National Youth Games next month.
The Youth Games for athletes Under-20 will take place in Windhoek from 10 to 13 May.
Athletes will compete in 10 sport codes namely football, netball, volleyball, basketball, boxing, tennis, judo, athletics, para-athletics and swimming.
Mbambo during the recent stakeholder meeting on preparations for the nationwide clean-up campaign on 25 May this year asked businesses to support the athletes in any way they can.
“A week after the examinations are written, the athletes will be brought to Rundu for intensive training. They are going to need water, they will need to eat,” he said.
The governor called on the business community and public sector to support the athletes as he said they will perform better with support from the region.
The games are aimed at bringing Namibia's youth closer together through a common interest in sportsmanship and competition.
It is also aimed at developing sport for the benefit of the youth of Namibia.
The competition will help the organisers select a team that will participate in the 2018 Region Five U-20 Youth Games slated for Gaborone, Botswana in December.
