RUNDU, 16 APR (NAMPA) – The Office of the Kavango East Governor is preparing to reward the Under-19 netball team that won The Namibian Newspaper Cup in Katima Mulilo a fortnight ago.
Governor Samuel Mbambo in an interview with Nampa on Monday said his office is preparing to reward the players next month before they go for the Youth Games in Windhoek.
He said the girls did the region proud by winning the inaugural netball competition of the popular annual Newspaper Cup.
The Kavango East U-19 team lifted the first netball trophy of the competition when they came out victorious against a fierce Erongo Region squad.
Mbambo said a ceremony will be held in their honour that will include the football team, which came second after losing to Omaheke in the finals.
“On behalf of the region, we want to thank them all for making us proud and we would like to wish them well for the upcoming Youth Games,” he said.
He indicated that the ceremony will be held on 03 May 2018, where the players will be given certificates and a parade will be held in Rundu to showcase the cup to residents of the region.
The Governor also called on the region’s business community and residents to rally behind the teams going to the Youth Games.
The Namibian National Youth Games will take place in Windhoek next month and will see 1 800 athletes competing in 10 sport codes.
