WINDHOEK, 16 APR (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare has warned that scammers are using a fake Gmail account using the minister’s name to solicit funds.
A media statement issued Monday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Lot Ndamanomhata said the fake email account, zephaniakameeta@gmail.com, is used to send emails to people instructing them on how to access the 11th European Development Fund Global Budget programme in return for N.dollars 1 700.
The development programme of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States supported by the European Union and United Nations Development Programme grants projects to southern African countries to promote economic, cultural and social development.
“These fake pages send out friend requests on Facebook and upon acceptance, they ask people to deposit money into their accounts before fulfilment of the securing of a job,” the statement said.
The ministry urged the public to report such incidents to the police for appropriate action to be taken.
