RUNDU, 16 APR (NAMPA) – Rundu Chiefs Football Club were on Sunday held to a one all draw by Young Chiefs at the Rundu Sport Stadium in the Namibia Premier League.
Rundu Chiefs, who had their hopes high in collecting six points by capitalising their home advantage, could not manage to pass through Young Chiefs as the game ended 1-1.
In the first half of the game, the visitors were the first to find the back of the net after Michael Friko gave them the lead just two minutes into the game.
However, Giovani Kaninab cancelled out their advantage when he equalised in the 13th minute.
As the game progressed, Young Chiefs Centre Forward, Michael Friko continued to give Rundu Chiefs’ defence a run for its money as he dribbled past them to give him a clear opportunity in the dying minutes of the first half but his effort was thwarted by the goalkeeper.
In the second half of the match, Young Chiefs came back from the break guns blazing as they kept on pressing, forcing Rundu Chiefs’ right back, Mutuku Thomas to give them a penalty kick after he handled the ball in the box.
However, Natangwe Erkki failed to capitalize on the penalty as Rundu Chiefs’ goalkeeper came to the front to deny him a goal.
Deep into the game, Rundu Chiefs could still not keep up with Young Chiefs’ pressure as they were reduced to ten men after their left back was sent off after picking up a second yellow card when he brought down Paulus Kennedy at the edge of the box.
The game ended 1-1.
The home team were also held to a 2-2 draw in their match against Chief Santos on Saturday at the same venue.
