WINDHOEK, 16 APR (NAMPA) – A wasteful Civics Football Club is still in danger of being relegated after drawing 1-1 with Tura Magic at the Independence Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit, who won the league three times in the past, is currently on 32 points after collecting four points over the weekend.
They beat Tigers 2-0 on Saturday and then drew on Sunday.
With 32 points to their name, the Khomasdal-based outfit is still 13th on the log of 16 teams and are now four points away from Young Chiefs, who are 14th on the log.
For Civics to avoid relegation to the First Division, they must win or draw their remaining two matches against Blue Waters on 05 May and Eleven Arrows on 06 May.
Three Premier League clubs will be relegated at the end of the 2017/18 MTC NPL season to make way for three clubs from the three different First Division streams.
On Sunday, Civics found themselves behind after an early goal by Tura Magic striker Itamunua Keimuine in the second minute of the game, but Civics fought back for an equaliser in the 30th minute through Steven Gariseb.
The half-time score was one-all.
In the second half, it was a one directional match as Civics dominated the game and Tura had little to offer.
Despite creating a number of scoring opportunities, the Civilians could not find the back of the net for the much-needed three points.
Young Chiefs and Rundu Chiefs are also fighting for survival in the NPL.
