WINDHOEK, 11 APR (NAMPA) – Three of six foreign nationals arrested in November 2017 in connection with an armed robbery of a G4S security guard at the Westlane Lifestyle Centre in Windhoek, want to be released on bail.
Court documents availed to Nampa on Wednesday show the three, through their privately-instructed defence lawyers Kadhila Amoomo and Immanuel Udjombala, will bring a joint formal bail application in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on 23 April 2018.
The trio – Shane Moyo, Vusi David and Mguni Pumuzile revealed their intention to lodge a joint formal bail application when they made another appearance before Windhoek Magistrate Gerrit Brand van Pletzen on Tuesday morning.
The other three – Kubeka Mthokozisi, Lukas Ndlovu and Khumalo Martin will not be taking part in the planned formal bail application bid.
The case was then remanded until 29 June 2018 to allow for further police investigations.
During the group’s first appearance in court on 15 November 2017, Public Prosecutor Tatelo Cuthbert Lusepani strongly objected to bail, because it would not be in the interest of the administration of justice to release them from custody while police investigations are at an initial stage.
He also feared that the alleged robbers would abscond from Namibia in efforts to evade prosecution once released on bail.
The accused were arrested on 13 November 2017, the same day the robbery took place.
According to the Namibian Police, four of the suspects were intercepted and arrested while in transit to Rehoboth and two were arrested in Windhoek.
The accused, four South African nationals and two Zimbabwean nationals are charged with robbing the guard of N.dollars 487 320 in cash at gunpoint. The money was collected from the Spar supermarket for banking.
An amount of N.dollars 336 000 as well as U.S.dollars 6 500 in cash (about N.dollars 93 515) was found on them at their arrest.
The six are held at the trial-awaiting section of the Windhoek Central Correctional Facility.
