Tender abuse destroying the country-Mutorwa...as he slams SOEs staff for the rot in many parastatals

Works minister, John Mutorwa, has fumed over the abuse of tenders within some parastatals which he said was becoming too much and ruining the country.

The minister was speaking at a press conference in whose attendance were parastatal board chairpersons and members as well as chief executive officers.

“Tenders comrades. This thing of tenders! It is impoverishing this country. The idea was to provide service. The idea was to empower those that were left out but the abuse is getting too much. The abuse! And therefore we are impoverishing this country and the people,” said the visibly infuriated minister while banging his table.

He went on to say, “‘If you hate me for this, I don’t care! I really don’t care! I know that nobody will justify wrong things but they are getting (to be) too much.”

He revealed that he was receiving many complaints over deals gone wrong but indicated that such should not be brought before the minister but should be dealt with within the confines of the law.
