Minor girl caught with cannabis at Khorixas

WINDHOEK, 09 APR (NAMPA) – The police in Kunene are appealing to the community to expose drug dealers in the region so they can face the law.
The appeal comes after a 15-year-old girl was caught with four small parcels of cannabis at Khorixas on Saturday around 10h00.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigation coordinator for Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu told Nampa police officers were called to attend to a case of theft at the house where the girl was in the Donkerhoek informal settlement.
She attempted to get rid of the cannabis by throwing it under a bed in full view of the police.
The girl was arrested.
Kanyetu said it appears as if some drug dealers are capitalising on poverty and using minors to sell drugs for them.
“A lot of the time, the minors are even paid with the same drugs they sell,” he said.
Kanyetu explained that the child would for instance be given 10 parcels of cannabis to sell and would be told they can sell nine and keep one for themselves.
“This is how they start using drugs,” he said.
The deputy commissioner said the community should expose drug dealers.
“The earlier we jointly start acting on this, the safer we can keep our young people,” he said.
