WINDHOEK, 06 APR (NAMPA) – Windhoek-East Constituency Councillor Matheus Amadhila announced on Friday that the City of Windhoek is negotiating with the government to subsidise water and electricity for senior citizens.
He made the announcement during a visit with other councillors to the Schanzen Oord Old Age Home, aimed at enhancing the relationship between councillors of that constituency and the senior citizens.
“We are trying to bring Government closer to its people, especially the senior citizens, as they play a significant role in the society,” Amadhila explained.
He said this is the outreach programme rated the highest in the constituency’s activities as they regard the seniors to be the most important people of their society.
He wished them healthy living and applauded them for their strength.
“The world we are living in is full of challenges but I am happy to talk about them, because you have been overcoming them for so many years and you are still overcoming them today,” Amadhila said.
He commended the elders for the significant role they played in promoting acceptable behaviour in today’s generation.
“It is noteworthy that the reason why most Namibians are well behaved, respecting human rights and the rule of law, is because of your guidance and the teaching you offered them from childhood and all along; they climbed the ladder of maturity.”
