WINDHOEK, 05 APR (NAMPA) – A 21-year-old man was on Tuesday denied bail in the Opuwo Magistrate’s Court, after appearing on a charge of attempted rape.
The accused, Jafet Mbwale, allegedly attempted to rape a 28-year-old woman in her shack in the Otuzemba informal settlement at Opuwo last Friday.
Approached on Thursday, crime investigations coordinator of the Namibian Police in the Kunene Region, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu told Nampa the accused allegedly opened the door of the shack while the victim was sleeping.
After gaining entrance, he allegedly started pulling off the underwear of the victim and attempted to have sexual intercourse with her.
The victim, according to Kanyetu, fought back to the extent that the accused lost consciousness, after which she ran to neighbours for assistance.
The accused was found lying in the woman’s shack and police were informed, leading to his arrest.
Prosecutor Aubrey Ndlovu told Nampa that Mbwale already has two pending rape cases before court, which are awaiting finalisation. These were allegedly committed while he was a minor.
Magistrate Eliud Nakulonda postponed the case to 21 August 2018 for further police investigations.
