Congolese doctor faces rape charge at Oshakati

OSHAKATI, 04 APR (NAMPA) – The 40-year-old Oshakati Intermediate Hospital medical doctor who allegedly raped a 20-year-old student in the Ongwediva area on Monday afternoon, was yet to be charged by Wednesday afternoon.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) crime investigations coordinator in the Oshana Region, Deputy Commissioner Hilja Haipumbu however confirmed to Nampa that though not yet charged, the suspect will appear in court at Oshakati on Thursday.
It is alleged that the doctor, a Congolese national and Ongwediva resident, offered the victim a lift from Oshakati and drove to the Onawa village where he reportedly raped her in his car.
Oshana NamPol also reported a separate incident in which an 11-year-old boy allegedly drowned while swimming with others at the “Baywatch Dam” in Ongwediva last Thursday.
The boy was identified as Nangolo Tala Oshili Unange, an Ongwediva resident and pupil of the Ongwediva Primary School.
His next of kin are informed, while an inquest docket into the matter has been opened at the Ongwediva police station.
