The mayor of Khorixas, Elizabeth Geises, who is a Swapo member is currently being investigated by the party for allegedly being a double agent, after she was nominated by United Democratic Front of Namibia (UDF) members to the position of mayor.

Geises who has never been a member of the UDF party was elected as the Khorixas mayor last year.

She confirmed the investigation being carried out by the party saying , “Yes, I was nominated by UDF members which is the opposition party and I accepted. But I never agreed on anything with the UDF members. I do not know who voted for me during the elections because votes took place secretly. Every person voted on a secret ballot,” she said.

It has been alleged that Geises is in cahoots with some of the UDF members who might be able to receive favours with Geises in office as mayor.

She has however denied any links to UDF, and could not say why members of the opposition nominated her.

The Khorixas Swapo Party Regional Coordinator, Raymond Haraeb also said that all the documentation regarding Geises’s case has been forwarded to the party head office as she is not being investigated at regional level.

“I have no comment on the matter. The case has been forwarded to the head office so I am not allowed to comment only the head office can say something on it,” he stated.

Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa could not shed light on the investigation as she was not updated on the case.

“I will have to get back to you on this one because I am not aware of it at the moment,” she said.
