WINDHOEK, 27 MAR (NAMPA) - Veteran sports journalist Helge Schütz launched his book, ‘Three Lions from the Land of the Brave’ here on Monday.
The book tells the stories of local boxers Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda and Julius ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo, who rose from humble beginnings to become world champions after a lot of sacrifice, extraordinary dedication and perseverance.
Schütz, who is also a photographer and editor of the former monthly, Namibia Sports Magazine, said at the book launch he was inspired by ‘Four Kings’ written by George Kimball.
‘Four Kings’ documents the boxing rivalries that fueled the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, specifically focusing on Roberto Duran, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns.
“It took me a year to write the book,” Schütz said.
Also speaking at the launch was Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Erastus Uutoni, who said he was honoured to see a Namibian journalist tell their own story of Namibian athletes.
“Writing a book is never an easy task. I believe that the biggest benefit to the success of a book is positive word of mouth that comes from creating a well-made product that people enjoy so much that they can’t stop talking about it,” he said.
Uutoni added that the book will remind future generations of the great things the three boxers achieved, not only for themselves, but for Namibia as a whole.
