RUNDU, 27 MAR (NAMPA) - The by-election for a new regional councillor for the Ncuncuni Constituency in Kavango West, will take place on Wednesday.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Councillor Rosa Kavara in January this year and will be contested by the Swapo Party and All People’s Party (APP).
Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) public relations officer Victoria Hango told Nampa on Tuesday they are ready for the election.
“For the past few days, we have been training polling officials and party agents. What we are doing today is giving the various teams their materials in the presence of the party agents before they are dispatched to their polling points,” Hango said.
Sixty polling officials will be dispatched to 12 polling points.
Hango said the ECN is expecting close to 5 040 registered voters to turn up on voting day.
She said the Electoral Commission tried its best to intensify voter education in the constituency with the help of voter education officers, to ensure that everybody is informed about the upcoming election.
The polling stations will open at 07h00 and close at 21h00.
The results are expected to be announced around midnight on Wednesday.
