A Windhoek based female taxi driver has set the bar high for women and has called on all females to join the taxi driving business.

Elfriede Kuhlmann, a mother of two boys that started driving a taxi in 2016 has said that there is nothing stopping women from driving a taxi as it is a means of getting an income.

“I would like to call upon all women to join in the taxi driving business. It is also a source of income like any other business and it is not meant for men only. It can get tough sometimes but in the end, it is all about putting bread on the table for your family. Although taxi driving is dominated by men, being a woman taxi driver has made me stronger due to competition in the city,” she said.

She added that one of the greatest challenges she faces as a woman driving a taxi is the rude attitude of drivers who see the trade as a male reserve.
