RUNDU, 20 MAR (NAMPA) The Kavango East Regions Under-20 team for The Namibian Newspaper Cup has been finalised.
The 18th edition of the newspaper cup, which will include netball for the first time, is slated for Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region from 30 March to 02 April 2018.
Team coach Alfeus Haiyambo told Nampa recently the players have been working hard.
They have also brought in former U-20 national team player, Lucky Ganaseb, to assess their fitness levels.
As part of preparations, the team has played a number of friendly matches against big teams in the region.
Haiyambo, who has been the regional teams coach for the past five years, said he has confidence in his players, especially as some of them have already experienced this kind of competition.
Their goal for now is to make it out of the group stages.
If you make it out of group stages you are already in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, anything can happen because we have a better team compared to last time, he said.
Kavango East has been drawn against Ohangwena and //Kharas in Group D.
Group A is made up of Kunene, Khomas, Otjozondjupa and Kavango West, while Group B comprises Zambezi, Erongo, Omaheke and Omusati.
Oshikoto, Oshana and Hardap were drawn in Group C.
