Cyclist dies in bus collision outside Otavi

OTJIWARONGO, 19 MAR (NAMPA) – A 26-year-old male cyclist died on Saturday after he was hit by a passenger bus on the road between Otavi and Kombat in the Otjozondjupa Region.
The deceased has been identified as Erastus Arachab, who lived on a farm situated alongside the Otavi-Kombat road.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Saturday confirmed that the incident happened around 15h45, some three kilometres north-east of Otavi.
“The man died on the spot,” Mbeha said, adding that his close relatives have been informed of his death.
The police officer said the bus with an Ondangwa registration number, had 27 occupants including its driver and was travelling from Windhoek to Rundu at the time of the incident.
Two passengers in the bus sustained injuries during the incident and were taken to the Otavi Clinic where they received medical attention.
A culpable homicide docket has been opened by the Otavi police against the 55-year-old bus driver.
Police investigations continue.
