Police officers burn beyond recognition in car crash

RUNDU, 16 MAR (NAMPA) – Two police officers burnt beyond recognition after a car they were travelling in collided with a Toyota Tazz sedan in Rundu on Friday.
Namibian Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi told Nampa late on Friday that the deceased were identified as Warrant Officer Sacky Shikongo and Warrant Officer Loise Hamunyela.
The incident happened at the Sitopogo area in the Kavango West Region on the B10 Nkurenkuru-Rundu main road.
Shikwambi said the police vehicle from the Ohangwena Region collided sideways with the sedan.
It is alleged that the police car was in the process of overtaking the sedan, when at the same time the sedan was making a right turn.
The two vehicles then collided.
The police vehicle and was also burnt beyond recognition.
According to Shikwambi, the police were travelling from the Bwabwata National Park.
The driver of the sedan was rushed to the Rundu State Hospital.
The next of kin of the male and female victims were informed and the police investigation into the matter continues.
